Color Me Crazy

As the worlds biggest fan of wearing neutral colors all year round, all the time it is rare that you'll find me frolicking around in something vibrant. Yet, for some reason, I am so drawn to everything bright for this spring. Now, I don't expect to go out on the town dressed as a human highlighter, but I am embracing the fact that the time has finally come for me to branch out.

I am absolutely in love with this coral Shoshanna dress(picture from here). The flutter sleeves hide my un-toned shoulders and the cinched waist is forgiving and flattering at the same time. It is a little pricey but I am confident that it will last for more than one season because of it's classic sillouette. It pays off to invest in one statement piece per season, so maybe this will be mine! I will probably pair it with something a little more simple, like these Report heels that I am absolutely obsessed with! I would wear the coral dress with the black ones, but the turquoise and coral are wonderful for pairing with all my black and white.

This blouse from JCrew comes in a million different fun colors. I love the melon one, it reminds me of a creamsicle! Also from JCrew are their classic 3" chino shorts. I am the first person to say that I am crazy picky about my shorts. Maybe its because it takes something special to flatter my "athletic" (cough) legs, BUT I do love these from JCrew. If you are like me and loathe trying on this summer staple here are some tips: find that it helps to go up a size in the lighter colors, and do some squats in the dressing room, they stretch! (and if you do them quickly it's built in cardio!) Shorts are also an easy way to get some fun colors in for the summer. Try a color that you usually avoid because it doesn't look good on your face, you can wear whatever color you like on the bottom!

I am coveting this dress on Lulus.com(picture from here). It comes in black but I think I may deviate from the norm and scoop up the turquoise one instead! All I need now is a good tan so that I don't look sickly sporting it. I can see it being so ideal for those nights that I am badgered into a family dinner and then want to go out afterward but don't have time to go home and change.

The absolute best place to go for color is American Apparel. This dress can be worn a million different ways and is perfect for both days at the beach and nights on the town. At less than $50 you can afford to experiment with a color you may not usually wear.
